This is a plein air charcoal drawing of an old barn that is located in Fostoria Michigan. It is a timber frame construction on a cement foundation and sided with rough sawn boards. I spent about an hour on a hot day completing this charcoal drawing. Fostoria is farm country in the thumb of Michigan. Many of these old timber frame and wood sided barns are disappearing. They are being replaced by pole barns with tim roofs and tin siding because they are more inexpensive. These silvery gray natural looking barns are becoming memories of the past so I decided to capture their natural beauty and do a series of barn drawing. |
