This is a plein air charcoal drawing of a barn that I did on a hot day in August. This barn is located about two miles from my friend Reed's house up North in Fostoria, Michigan. The barn is located on Castle road just off Lapeer Road. This drawing was completed in about an hour and is drawn on sketch book paper.
Many of these beautiful old barns will be lost as time goes forward. I drew this common simple barn because I love the post and beam construction and the silvery gray wood siding that is a reflection of a time when wood was more inexpensive and available.
I can't stop the loss of these wonderful old barns, but I can help their beauty continue to be appreciated by capturing the moment in time and putting them in my art for all to enjoy.
