This is a watercolor painting of a Japanese Red Maple tree. They are very beautiful trees and are a bit expensive to purchase at a nursery. The foliage of a Japanese Red Maple tree often yields a very deep rich red hue at certain times of the year.
This single Japanese maple tree stands alone revealing its beauty on an open plain. It was all the subject I needed to become inspired enough to create this watercolor painting. I used translucent red and brown washes on the green foreground grass to calm down the contrast vibration caused by the red dirt in the vanishing background and green foreground.
