This is a watercolor painting of a black mountain outcropping with various grasses and flowers in the foreground. I painted this watercolor. shortly after I finished studying many of the art works of Vincent Van Gogh. I was trying to think and paint like Van Gogh in the hope that I could mimic his style and technique. Although the painting is very nice, I didn't come close to Van Gogh's style.
The paintings imagery is too identifiable. I didn't manage to abstract the objectivity enough. Half of Van Gogh's style and technique can be attributed to his use of heavy oil paints which were used to create a build up in texture on the surface of the canvas. It's just not possible to get that buildup effect painting with watercolor paints.
