This is a wonderful impressionistic landscape oil painting of the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska.
This painting was created from a picture in a book. I was working on the use of pallet knives for working oil paints onto canvas. I found these mountains to be a good test for the discovery process. This is a famous glacier that is a favorite tourist spot. The Mendenhall Glacier is a glacier about 13.6 miles long located in Mendenhall Valley, about 12 miles from downtown Juneau in the southeast area of the U.S. state of Alaska
The painting really gives you the feeling of a cold and frozen environment. The use of the cool dark hues and the suggestion of snow and frozen ice both convey the coolness of the oil painting.
