Setting sun on Lake Oakland

This is a beautiful impressionistic waterscape oil painting of a setting sun on Lake Oakland.  I only live about 5 miles from this lake and had my camera with me the day I took this picture.  There are many homes on this lake but the distance and the sun obscured them from view in this photo. 

The soft skyline and reflection from the water helped to make this sunset rich in color and nuance. 

When I created this painting I kept my paints thinned down and layered in many washes to give this painting the feeling of a watercolor painting. The overlapping translucent layers create a unique feeling for the viewer.
